Lamberts Restaurant in Balham revolves around the best of British produce. They deal only with smaller suppliers and have impressive eco credentials.

"We religiously use only British produce and follow the seasons to the letter. A rather clichéd thing now, but rarely is it followed as closely as we do," owner Joe explains. 

Their May menu, for example, showcases seasonal ingredients such as asparagus, Jersey Royals, heritage tomatoes, peas and watercress. 

New Covent Garden Market allows them to access a whole wealth of smaller British growers. Joe orders his fruit and veg from First Choice and also visits the market in person from time to time.

By buying from a supplier who’s an expert on British produce and provenance, Lamberts are able to change their full menu monthly, weaving in subtle changes day-to-day to keep their customers coming back for more.

"New Covent Garden Market has got a great vibrancy to it – you have a sense when you’re there that it’s the fruit and veg centre of London. It’s quite an incredible thing really."
