Buy in person or get delivery to your door

There's two ways to buy from us: visit us in person to get closer to the flavours or let your ingredients come to you.

Buying in person

Get to grips with your fruit and veg by picking it out in person on Buyers’ Walk. Let your eyes pop. Your nose tingle. Your mouth water. On Buyers’ Walk, our wholesalers show off their produce out on the ‘flash’. You can touch, smell and sometimes taste before buying.

Can’t see what you need? Just ask the salesman. It may be carefully kept in a cold store, dry storage or ripening room.

New to the market?

Are you a new business looking to start buying? Let us show you round and match you with your perfect wholesalers.

Opening times

Wholesalers on Buyers’ Walk trade between 00:00 - 06:00, Monday to Saturday. We’re closed on Saturday night/Sunday morning and bank holidays.

The best time to come and buy is between 03:00 and 06:00. The opening hours of each wholesaler can vary, so if there’s someone you really want to see, best to check with them before coming down.

Getting here

Only commercial vehicles (that’s a van or lorry) can enter the Fruit and Veg Market. If you have a permit, simply drive in. If you don’t have a permit, there’s a £5 entry charge you pay at the entrance barriers.

If you’re in a car, you can park in the Multi-Storey Car Park. If you have a permit, simply drive in. If you don’t, pull a ticket on entering and pay on foot before leaving at one of the pay stations.

Volumes and pricing

Produce is sold in bulk by the box, sack or pallet. A box might be made up of multiple small punnets (if you’re buying berries) or kilos of loose product (if you’re buying apples). If you need smaller quantities, consider using a wholesaler who delivers as they’ll break up the boxes for you.

Prices aren’t displayed because they change according to supply and demand. So you’ll need to ask the salesman for the price.

A lot of our wholesalers accept cards, but some do only take cash especially for small orders. Once you’ve found your favourite wholesaler, you can set up an account with them.

Share the load

If you need help getting your purchases to your van or lorry, ask the salesman who will arrange for a porter to help you.

Hot drinks and butties

Early mornings aren’t always easy. We get that. Good thing there’s a few cafés dotted around the market to keep you going.

  • Tony’s Café underneath the East Bridge rows C&D is open from 21:00 - 07:30
  • Nellies underneath the West Bridge rows C&D is open from 00:00 - 13:00
  • The Market Café underneath the East Bridge rows A&B open from 02:00 - 14:00
  • There’s also a Post Office and convenience store on the West Bridge

Delivery to your business

Amazing fresh produce delivered to your door, daily. What could be easier? Take your pick of our wholesalers who deliver fruit, veg, organic, frozen, dairy, meat, juice, prepared produce and dry goods. Have their expert buyers do the hard work for you while you sleep easy.

Orders are taken 24 hours a day, seven days a week by phone or email. The first time you order you’ll set up an account with your wholesaler and then you’re ready to roll.

If you are a new customer or want to chat to someone about your order in more detail, you’ll need to call during office hours. 07:00 - 15:00 works for most wholesalers, but companies vary.

You can arrange for your order to be dropped off in a safe location overnight or direct to your door throughout the morning. Whichever works for you. You can even give a set of keys to our wholesalers and they’ll take the order straight inside. A lot of our customers do that. Some wholesalers offer deliveries up to three times a day.
