Finalists announced!

New Covent Garden Market Vitrine Art Commission is a three-year public art initiative, funded by St. Modwen in association with Covent Garden Market Authority and brought to fruition by London’s largest contemporary arts festival, Art Night.

The Vitrine is located on the side of the Flower Market on Nine Elms Lane and aims to promote and nurture emerging artists, working within photography, painting, text, illustration and other two-dimensional mediums.

This year, there were 237 submissions that a final five were chosen from: Nneka Uzoigwe; duo Ava Asaadi & Paulina Lenoir; The Black Bird Collective: Sondos Mahdy, Dean Bowen, Tasnim Mahdy; Anna Nicolo and Olivia Sterling.

We were delighted to take them on a tour of the market to provide creative inspiration and insight. We look forward to seeing their developed submissions.

The artist’s brief was to raise proposals that celebrate the themes of our market such as fruit, vegetables, flowers and/or plants. The artwork should aim to connect the market with Londoners by putting an emotive spotlight on the produce and people that makes the market so renowned.

Final judging will take place in August and the launch is currently planned for 1st October.
