Bright summer blooms, many of them British, can be found at New Covent Garden Market this month!
Just how beautiful are these homegrown larkspur at Pratley in purple, lilac and pink?
British Flowers
Also on Pratley's British stand, you'll find boxes upon boxes of white Calla lilies. And here's a link to our special Florist's Guide to Calla Lilies, just in case you missed it first time around.
You'll also find plenty of poppy seed heads to add texture to designs. Plus they have Eryngiums, Pinks, Alstroemeria, Peonies, Lilies and Brodiaea too.
Whilst over at Zest Flowers in their British Flowers Corner, together with masses of exquisitely fragrant British roses, you'll find dainty Tanacetum, also known as feverfew.
This is just a small snapshot of the wonderful British flowers currently available at the Flower Market. You'll also find many of the blooms mentioned in our Florist's Guide to British Flowers.
World Flowers
Perfect for seasonal bouquets are these pretty white Scabiosa caucasica, which are available at Bloomfield.
Also known as Tweedia caerulea, you'll find wraps of Oxypetalum coeruleum with their powdery blue petals at DG Wholesale Flowers.
It's peak season for hydrangeas at the moment and there are so many stunning varieties at Nine Elms this month, in a wide range of different colours! How about this pale blue Hydrangea Magical Revolution at A Goodchild/The Floral Garden Group?
Trevor at DG Wholesale Flowers' favourite hydrangea variety is the one he's holding in the photo below. With its light blue flowers edged with white, it's called Hydrangea macrophylla Beautensia Dali.
How stunningly vibrant is this violet variety of Phlox?! It's called Phlox paniculata Blue Paradise and you'll find it at A Goodchild/The Floral Garden Group.
Staying with a cool colour palette are these Campanula Champion Blue. Look out for the pink variety too.
Dahlia season is here! And as well as white, red, pink and orange, you'll find this gorgeous deep chocolate variety called Dahlia Karma Choc with velvet-like petals and black stems at Zest Flowers.
Sure to add a splash of colour to an arrangement is this Monarda Liesbeth. Such a vibrant shade of cerise pink!
For something much more subtle, how about this soft pink Saponaria? Its common name, soapwort, derives from the Latin sapo meaning 'soap' and -aria meaning 'pertaining to'. Did you know that Saponaria officinalis is used to make a liquid soap, which is still used to clean delicate antique tapestries?
Have you seen this yellow flower before? It's called Oenothera and it's available at Bloomfield.
Rounding up the flower section with Andy at Zest Flowers, who's partial to sunflowers at this time of year ... such a cheerful bloom!
British Foliage
There's homegrown greenery aplenty at our specialised foliage wholesalers. Head to GB Foliage for containers loaded with dock.
Whilst over at Porters Foliage, you'll find prunus in leaf. And what a fabulous colour it is!
You'll also find flowering privet ...
... and both this large leaf cotoneaster below, plus the smaller leaf variety too.
World Foliage
A firm favourite at this time of year to add a touch of lightness to a design is Cotinus coggygria Magical Green Fountain, also known as smoke bush or smoke tree.
British Plants
Possibly some of the tallest foxglove plants currently available at the market are these British ones, which are available at L Mills!
World Plants
At Evergreen, you'll be spoilt for choice if you're on the look-out for dahlia plants! They've got trolleys brimming with many different colours including red, pink and yellow.
Quality Plants always have an amazing array of plants on display, from Boston ferns and fiddle-leaf figs to peace lilies and Euphorbia ingens. All just the ticket for the current houseplant trend, which shows no sign of abating.
And do check out their Peperomia Quito houseplants with striking leaves too. They're easy to care for and need little looking after.
Succulents also thrive without too much attention. How cute are these mini varieties at Arnott & Mason, which would be perfect as wedding favours.
Sundries
At The Flower Store (part of Bloomfield), their ribbed clear glassware is going down a storm with customers. And it's so budget-friendly, as are their glass jam jars.
On the other side of their stand, you'll find an incredible selection of ceramic and glass, vases and containers. If you need containers for Phalaenopsis orchids in particular, do check out their Douro pots in grey, green and terracotta.
So, I hope you’ve enjoyed this edition of the In Season report and it’s given you lots of inspiration! As always, it features just some of the many floral highlights at the market this month.
