We are calling artists of all ages and career stages to apply to present an artwork for the 20m long building facade on Nine Elms Lane at New Covent Garden Market.
We are once again collaborating with contemporary art festival Art Night to bring you the opportunity to design a 20m long building facade here at New Covent Garden Market. The annual commission is funded by VSM (VINCI St Modwen), New Covent Garden Market's redevelopment partner.
The initiative started in 2018 with artist Anna Skladmann presenting 'Ghost In The Machine - Understanding The Language of Flowers' as part of Art Night Open programme. The artist raised questions on botanical classifications systems exploring notions of nature and society, cultivation and the machine by juxtaposing the errors and ghosting of her scanning machine with the fragility of exotic botanical findings that she sourced at the market.

The details:
This year we are looking for artwork proposals that celebrate one or more of the three key product groups that make the market so special - fruit, vegetables and flowers. Your design should serve to foster a relationship between the market and Londoners while also providing a unique and attractive facade to our neighbours, local community, customers and visitors to Nine Elms.
The commission can feature photography, painting, text work or any other two-dimensional medium. The artwork will be replicated onto perforated vinyl sheeting and affixed to the frontage of the market on Nine Elms Lane. The Vitrine dimensions are 20,610mm x 4800mm.
Please refer to the selection criteria and guidance notes for applicants here before applying.
