It's British Flowers Week

Written by Claire Levi

It's British Flowers Week! From 19-25 June we're celebrating British flowers and the people who grow them, sell them and create stunning designs using them.

This is our fifth year running this campaign that's all about bringing together independent florists, wholesalers and flower growers to raise awareness of British flowers and foliage.

To show what can be done with British flowers and foliage, we'll be sharing photos of 15 specially commissioned designs from five awesome florists using all British flowers and foliage. The five florists that we'll be featuring are: Mary Jane Vaughan, Jennifer Pinder, Matt Richardson of Urban Flower Company, Abigail MacNiven of Petal & Stalk and Carly Rogers.

Every day we'll be posting pictures of their designs on the British Flowers Week website and across our social media for you to see. You can keep up to date by following us on Instagram @MarketFlowers and Twitter @MarketFlowers, signing up to our email updates, and using the hashtag #BritishFlowersWeek.

Throughout the week, people are hosting celebrations of British flowers all across the country. Flower shops, city centres, stately homes, and gardening shows are running special British flower events. Flower farms are opening their gates to visitors and florists are teaching special workshops. You can check out what's happening when over on the British Flowers Week website.

Photo Competition

Enter our British Flowers Week Instagram photo competition to win yourself one of three amazing floral prizes. On Instagram, simply post your photo and use the hashtag #BritishFlowersWeek in your caption.

There’s no strict theme, except the flowers, plants or foliage need to be British. We’d love to see photos of you enjoying British Flowers Week, buying British flowers in the Flower Market, designs you’ve made, your fields full of flowers, whatever you think looks best.

There are three prizes up for grabs.

  • First prize is a one on one social media session with the exceptionally talented Rona Wheeldon of award-winning blog Flowerona. You’ll have a one hour Skype training session on Instagram, including a review of your account with hints and tips on how to grow your following.
  • Second prize is £100 to spend on British flowers and foliage at the Flower Market. We’ll give you a personal tour and let you pick out your flowers and foliage from the selection on offer.
  • Third prize is a selection of Liz Earle hand products, to soothe your hard-working fingers.

The competition will run from 19-25 June. On those days we’ll be eagerly watching Instagram to see your entries rolling in. Every day we’ll be posting a gallery of our favourite images on our Instagram and at the end of the week we’ll pick our favourites and announce the winners.

Good luck, and we can't wait to see your photos!
